In 1988 this galaxie was registered in Los Angeles.
Win is little bit odd.. Very high consecutive number 301XXX means that car is built in July 1964?
Somekind of special order car, built in Mahvah Factory. Very rare option in this car:
Swing-Away steering setup ! Not so many convertibles known with Swing Away setup!
In 1992 This galaxie was shiped to northern Europe, Finland.
Shape was then, barely drivable, little frame rust, whole trunk was gone, rear quaters were rusted through,
& almost every chromed cast parts were badly pitted..
I bought this galaxie in april 1993
So, I have owned this galaxie for last 17 years.
Future plans:
Next:
-New motor mounts arrived, not changed yet
-Redone heads & new exhaust manifolds, long hi-po cast ones, new intake manifold (1964 model)?

Engine is painted in black, noisy electric fans removed, 7 blade orginal (Q-code) fan + clutch installed.
All 2000`s wiring removed, now styled more like 60`s.
Still wrong ford motorsport valve covers....
1st June:
New 96 AMP alternator installed.
Pitman arm bushings changed too
br>
2009 Drivin season: 4th May : new starter, new flexplate, rear trans support.
Now starter runs about twice faster than before!
Car starts in less than a second; Hot or Cold !
Rockauto really rocks, again delivered right parts! ROCK ROCK !

2009 Drivin season: 17th April : On a road again!

Steering much firmer now, with rebuilt control valve & new upper arm shafts and bushings.
2008-2009 Winter season: Front Supension & Steering repairs, new seat covers.
10th April
Now Mooneyes 2" drop blocks installed between rearaxle and leafsprings.

Actually rear end was about 3cm / 1.25 inches too high, due to extra leafs.

So, it`s time to do passenger side

So, Ball joint popper is in it`s place,
Only one wrench needed... |

So, few turns later "Big pop" happends, and upper ball joint is seperated from upper "A" -arm.
|
SO, another A-arm is out from car.
18th December 2008
Finally driverside upper arm is back in its place.
Rust removed, painted, new innershaft & bushings and upper ball-joint

2007-2008: Interior renovation, D.I.Y. Rally Pack, back to columnshift & swing away setup.
19. September, drving season is over. Galaxie is now sleeping :-(
Odometer says 40400 kilometers, so about 3500 kilometers was a summer driving score.
I must do now something for steering, Rack and pinion setups was quite tempting, but
those setups were too expensive for me , ca 1500 us, that is really GRAZY, rack costs about 100 bucks,
+ borgeson joints, less than 100 us, few brackets & hoses. Reasonable price should be like 500 US dollars ?
Today I uninstalled control valve, and It was enough worn every way, I ordered rebuilt control valve from rockauto.com, only 265 us incl core payment.
Also I adjusted steering box, there were about 2 millimeters play, no play anymore .
30.August 2008
Summer is over, no more toppless driving :-(
Perhaps still I drive with my galaxie in september... heater on !
11.August 2008
I Installed new Flowtech mufflers.

Great sound, not soo loud, nice muscular sound!
Not yet at in best location, when I build whole exhaust system again ,
then I put those under the galaxie.
10.August 2008
I ordered new XL bucket seat covers and Black convertible boot from SMS-fabrics
4. August 2008
So, I got panels from SMS Fabrics. Great stuff, they know what they are doing!
Metal panels were not good, but they promised to send me better ones.

May- July 2008
New rear panels from Burton antique autoparts.
What a clean look without that XL emblem.
I have great condition emblem, but some how it looks off-centered as it is only in right panel.

Also this is one way to go: add 1962 500XL center emblem???

17. April 2008
Now installing new rear bumber, new electronic window regulators,
which came from Nu-Relics, www.nu-relics.com.
Instrument cluster is quite ready now.

18. March 2008
Dash looks like this now:

Now i am working on electric window swich,
Lots of dust, spider webs etc found inside. All contacts corrored and spings and screws rusted.

05. March 2008.
Once again i was lucky enough to win this at ebay:
Orginal Electric Window Swicth. (console mounted)

I think this was very unusual option in year 1964.
Most of 64 Galaxies were not eqquipped with electric windows, if were, usually switch was located in drivers door.
My Galaxie do not have orginal motors, so wiring is different with "Modern 2 -wire electric windows motors"
This is my plan to connect it:

28.Feb 2008.
Heater box rebuilt, rust removed, painted, new gaskets, new defroster hoses & collar from dennis carpenter .
Also dash is installed. Lot`s of wiring still must done. Many bolts and nuts missing. Where are those ?
Speaker grille and vent outlets are now CHROMED

27.Feb 2008. What A sad day. Our HOT ROD king passed away. R.I.P. Boyd Coddington.

7.Feb 2008.
"Rally Pack" is ready. I made it from new center piece from Dennis Carpenter , and 3x Equus (466066) plastic gauge cups.
2" Moon gauges; Volts, Tacho and Mechanical Oil Pressure gauge.

30. January 2008
So, I need some extra gauges.
I have been dreaming about this kind of 3 extra gauge setup for last 10 years!!!
I saw at ebay that seller reedandrail
sells that kind of setup.
So if someone can do it, I will try too.
So, it took about 40 hours, 3 centerpieces, 5 gauge cups..
I used CD cardic #466066 2" gauge cups, first I removed "leg"
then I cut it.. with Stanley 199 Fixed blade utility knife,
few different pliers, even sheetmetal cutter, and grinder with 80 /120 grade paper.
same tool with that center section.
NO need for bondo or paints, just be careful, to gut ALMOST correct shape holes for that center section,
and EXACTLY correct "holes" on those gauge cups.
Center pices is quite easy to do, cups are not.. Also finding correct angle for those cups is important,
both ways, horinzontally and vertically.
First I used orginal old center piece, it was too hard, it went to pieces.
2nd piece from Carpenter was success.. Total of 6 cups, and 3 center sections
one good setup. Not perfect but good enough !!!
Pieces in pictures are those damaged ones..

Painful job, but I managed to do it.
Notice 200 Mph speedo (just kiddin, it is kilometer speedo)
New chrome bezels I got from Dennis Carpenter Restorations
Here is first cardboard model what I made
24. January 2008
New rear bumber arrived from BumberBoyz, Kari Koivisto from Car-Koivisto Restoration Service
delivered this for me. Thank´s a lot Kari !
5. January 2008.
Steering column is now rebuilt, also I got stuff from paint shop:

Dash, steering column and speedo frame is painted gloss black, column supports etc. satin black.

I ordered Black XL door panels form SMS, and new rear bumber should be here soon.
Just arrived spinners for those torque thurst wheels.

"Moinla" sells great wheel stuff at ebay
22. november 2007. Radio from Alpsmarketing.
After 1,5 monhths waiting time, I got new radio.
Little bit dissapointment, Bezel is plain black plastic piece.. with chromed vinyl sticker- looks so cheap.
Also there is Ford text, no Galaxie text, like in auction picture :-(

I was expecting better looks, like in auction image:

Dash, steering column & pieces are in paintshop now. All wiil be Gloss Black.
New rear bumber ordered from BumberBoyz
20. October 2007. Dash parts restoration & interior color wondering.
Just now many dash pieces are under renovation, light rust removal job & sand blasting.
Front speaker grille and ventilation outlets will be chromed.
I have black dash cover, and now I´m vondering, should I paint dash metal parts in yellow too ?
Or keep those in black ?. Also those aluminium dash trim parts are no so good condition.
Also black doorpanels & seat covers or 2 -tone yellow black.
Very Hard to decide.
At least 1955 Fairlane interior looks so cool...
Next week I will get packet from Moon eyes.
Tach & 3 gauge set will be installed some day.

Just arrived rebuilt clock with bezel from Phildon restorations.

I ordered great looking radio 2 weeks ago from Alps Performance and Accessories...

10.October 2007. What a mess
Dash & Console removed. Most of non orginal wires are gone too.
All orginal wires are in quite good condition

08. October 2007. Missing Parts Found
I Ordered missing steering parts from www.blueoval6079.com
Today I disassembled left front fender and innerfender too.
Next dash & console goes away...

05. October-2007. Getting started
Driving season is now over. Soon that white shit (snow) everywhere.. Too cold to drive topdown
Somekind of interior renovation is on progress now.
First i remowed Selet-Aire unit, no need for that.
I have complete Select-Aire setup, but that thing is not so important here.
It also blows too cold air, below 0 celsius. Easy to get cold..
If it gets too warm, just top down and more speed. :-)
Lots of mr Bean styled electical wiring still in car.. not so long.. Many circuits
goes without fuses directly to battery!
Few months ago my galaxie was on fire, with good luck only 1 feet of front wiring melted.
1 ft tall flames under hood, luckily I can blow air myself, good lungs I have :-)
Only one finger burnt little bit.
Main goal is to put that Swing - Away steering setup working again.
Previous owner changed car to floor shift.

a Sad picture, something is missing..

1993-2006
I bought this Galaxie in april 1993, she had then fresh green paint, white top and bluish green interior.
Steel wheels, 3 x pontiac motor division hub caps + 1 unknown hubcap.
Cruise-O-matic working fine, engine smokes a lot.

In 1994 I bought another american ford, 1967 Ford LTD 4drHt Q-code.
That was partly sand blasted project, but Q-code engine was just rebuilt.
I put tha Q-code engine to my galaxie, and I lost intrest on that LTD, so I sold it away in ca 95-97
In 2005 green paintwork and interior was worn, time to start some kind of restoration.
In spring 2005, Galaxie was painted at Marine Alutech paint shop, choosing color was painful,
Pink, Black, Gold and Yellow was our choices. So Phonician yellow was target, result is
slightly too bright yellow. In 2006 I bought American racing Torque Thrust II Wheel,
7x17 in front, and 8x17 in rear. Tires are 225-45/17 and 235-45-17
